Description	:	The following is told by Frank Hull Crowell, in 1954: The story goes that George Washington Hull, later known as Alexander Wilson, was reported to have killed a man named Chance Proctor with a piece of fence rail. There are three versions of the story about the fatal fight. No. 1 : "Wash" Hull was having an affair with Chance Proctor's wife and this caused the fight; No. 2 : Chance Proctor was having an affair with "Wash" Hull's wife and this caused the fight; No. 3 : "Wash" Hull and Chance Proctor got into an argument... Read More	The following is told by Frank Hull Crowell, in 1954: The story goes that George Washington Hull, later known as Alexander Wilson, was reported to have killed a man named Chance Proctor with a piece of fence rail. There are three versions of the story about the fatal fight. No. 1 : "Wash" Hull was having an affair with Chance Proctor's wife and this caused the fight; No. 2 : Chance Proctor was having an affair with "Wash" Hull's wife and this caused the fight; No. 3 : "Wash" Hull and Chance Proctor got into an argument and a man named Mitchem entered into the fight and struck the fatal blow, but since "Wash" Hull was not getting along well with his wife, he decided to leave and used both for an excuse. "Wash" and his wife, Amanda, had two children before he left - Lee who died in 1937 and a daughter who married a Heavner. Major Frank Hull (brother to George Washington Hull) lived in Catawba County, NC, approximately six miles away at the time of the fight, and he is said to have related the story of "Wash" Hull's coming to his house in the middle of the night and spending one night and one day, then continuing on to Tennessee. Major Frank Hull is said to have pleaded with him to remain and stand trial, but that "Wash" insisted on running away. He corresponded with "Wash" at irregular intervals during the years and in 1915 Major Frank Hull and his son Guy Hull made a trip to Maryville, Tennessee, but before reaching Cades Cove learned that "Wash" Hull had died several years before and, so they did not continue the journey. Later, Frank Hull Crowell related that his Mother and Father made an auto trip to Cades Cove and spent two nights with George Washington "Wash" Hull's son and grandson, (known as Alexander Wilson), . --- related by Frank Hull Crowell, Oct. 7, 1954.
