Description	:	ALFRED PORTER: Mr. Alfred Porter, Second Avenue, Shelburne, entered into eternal rest at Shelburne District Hospital on Monday, July 5th, 1965, in his 86th year, after a prolonged illness. "Alf" as he was known by his many friends, was born on December 25th, 1879, in Erin Township, son of the late Alex Porter and Mary Wheeler. In 1900 he moved with his parents to Corbetton district. "Alf" as he was known by his many friends, was born on December 25th, 1879, in Erin Township, son of the late Alex Porter and Mary Wheeler. In 1900 he moved with his parents to Corbetton district. In 1918 he married the former Ethel Johnstone, who passed away in 1919. In 1925 he married Margaret Roszell, who predeceased him in 1963. They had retired to Shelburne in 1952. He was a member of Hillsburgh Church of Christ (Disciples) and attended Corbetton United Church. He is survived by four daughters: Alice of Bilaspur, India; Ethel (Mrs. Harold Pike) of Toronto; Ruby (Mrs. Jim Taggart) of Melancthon, and Edith (Mrs. Douglas Bell) of Toronto; also one sister, Edith (Mrs. William Aldcorn)of Badjeros. Five brothers and one sister predeceased him, namely: George (in infancy), John, Liza (Mrs. Alex Jamieson), Fred, Jim and Will. The funeral service was held on Thursday, July 8th, in the Gamble Funeral Home, conducted by Mr. M. McLeod of Thornbury, assisted by Rev. H. C. MacTaggart of Corbetton. Nephews served as pallbearers, namely: Ray Aldcorn, William Porter, Howard Simpson, John Roszell, Bert Crewson and Alfred Jamieson. The following were flowerbearers: Pearl Priddle, Kay Stewart, Alex Aldcorn, George McIntyre and Walter McIntosh. Shelburne Free Press & Economist, July 21, 1965
