Memorial may be made to North Star Services for future designation. Alfred Edward Howard was born near Niobrara, Nebraska to Edward and Mary (Caulfield) Howard. He lived with his family in the Verdigre area until 1941, when they moved to O’Neill. He enjoyed attending local activities such as the Eagles Club dance, rodeos, concerts, parades, and activities at NorthStar and the O’Neill Care and Rehab. Alfred was a familiar face to many on his route while delivering Torpin’s Rodeo Market circulars in his younger years. Friends could count on his warm smile and friendly greeting to brighten their day. Alfred was a loyal friend and a loving brother. He didn’t like doing things by himself, but loved being in good company, including his brothers Edward and Elmer, and good friend Gregg Klinetobe. He was protective towards his long-time girlfriend Carol Brittell, gallantly holding her arm whenever out walking with her. Alfred was a member of the First Christian Church. He looked forward to bowling with his friends on the Special Olympic team. For many years, Alfred was a regular at local People First meetings, and the group’s state convention in Kearney. He enjoyed watching Price is Right, tinkering in his garage, and collecting aluminum pop cans. Alfred is survived by his sister, Rosemary Wailes of Evans, Colorado and several nieces and nephews. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Elmer, Edward, and 2 infant brothers; and one sister, Donna Banks. (biglinsmortuary.com/obituary)
