Alfred was born April 7, 1912, to Frank and Katherine (Steffen) Becker on the family farm southeast of St. Helena. He worked on the family farm until it was sold. He moved to St. Helena in 1928. He married Julia Kleinschmit May 2, 1939, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee. He continued farming on other farms until renting his own place in 1942. He farmed until 1962 when he started work as a machinist at the Freeman Company. Julia and Alfred moved to Yankton in 1974. He retired in 1979. Alfred was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Senior Citizens Center, both of Yankton. Alfred is survived by two sisters, Freda (Harry) Johnson, San Jose, Calif.; and Adeline (Howard) Morris, Marietta, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Eleanor Becker, Hartington, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.
