Read More	ALFRED JACOBS, FORMER MAYOR OF CATAWBA, DIES Alfred Jacobs, 77, of Catawba, one of Ohio's prominent Democrats, and former mayor of Catawba, died at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday at the Springfield City Hospital. He became a patient last Friday after he suffered a stroke and collapsed in a cigar store at 12 S. Center st. Mr. Jacobs was the oldest Democratic committeeman from Pleasant Township, Clark County, for the last 56 years. It was in 1883 when Cleveland was running for his first term against James G. Blaine, that Mr. Jacobs became interested in politics. For eight years, up until the 1938 election, he was a member of the Clark County executive committee. During the Harmon, Cox and Donahey administrations in Ohio, Mr. Jacobs served as sergeant-at-arms in the House of Representatives at Columbus. He also was associated in the capacity of foreman with the state highway department at intervals since 1910. In 1912 he served as custodian of the committee rooms for the fourth constitutional convention in Columbus. Mr. Jacobs was mayor of Catawba for more than 22 years, resigning from that office only a few weeks ago. He was born in Indianapolis, Ind. and came to Catawba as a youth. He was the last of 13 children. Surviving him are five sons, Eston O., Edwin R., Alden L., Alfred, Jr. and Harmon Jacobs, all of Springfield, and three daughters, Mrs. Charles Rust, of this city, Mrs. Lester Heider of Route 1, New Carlisle, and Mrs. Audrey Anderson, of St. Paris. Sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive. His wife, Ella Runyan Jacobs, died May 17, 1938. The body was taken to the Jackson funeral home where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Burial will be made in Asbury Chapel Cemetery. !
