Description	:	Alfred was the son of John Prough and Elizabeth Funk. He married Arilla E. Elliott (daughter of Thomas Elliott and Ann Poyser) on 6 Jan 1867 in Elkhart county, Indiana. Harry Elliott On page 478 of "Joseph Poyser and his Descendants 1769-1983" by Josephine Lois Poyser Fullerton is a photocopy of this newspaper article: "Alfred Prough, farmer and stock-raiser, was born Feb.27, 1841, in Hocking county, Ohio; his parents were John and Elizabeth (Funk) Prough, of Pennsylvanian birth, and German ancestry. When he was very young, the family removed to Lagrange county, Ind., where they still reside, and are among the early settlers of that county. Alfred received a fair common-school education, and followed farming for an occupation; he was married Jan. 6, 1867, to Arilla Elliott, born in 1850, in Lagrange county; 4 of their 6 children are living, viz.; Thomas Lemmon, born April 7, 1868; Alice Dell, Oct. 5, 1869; Anna E., July 29, 1875; Orange Alfred, Sept. 21, 1880. After marriage Mr. Prough resided in Lagrange county, for one and on-half years, and in June, 1868, removed to his present location, where he owns a fine farm of 153 acres, and is a substantial and well-known citizen. Mrs. Prough is a member of the M.E. Church." Alfred's father remarried a second time to Margaret A. Eldridge Prough (daughter of William Mumford Eldridge and Eliza R. Poyser Eldridge) on 30 Jan 1876 in Elkhart Co., IN. They had four children together making them Alfred's half siblings.
