Rufus Adams Sr May 20 1905 January 8 1977 Alfred Rufus Adams (Sr) was the eldest child of his family. His father's name appears in records as Eddie, Ed, E D, Edward D Sr, and on his death certificate and in his obituary as Eddie Cleveland Adams. (Cleveland may represent a nickname.) His mother's name was Lunar (Luna) Vaughan. Her name appears on one census as Luna A. He was the grandson of James Ervin "Did" Adams and his wife Catherine M Lewis, great grandson of Thomas Cameron Adams and his wife Elizabeth Gainey, and great great grandson of Cameron Adams and his wife Jane Copeland. Rufus first married "Bertha" Henry (27 Nov 1924 in Bennettsville, Marlboro County, SC) and later he married Jewel Haywood. (Her first husband was Augustus Bullard O'Tuel.) Children from his marriage to Bertha include Rufus Jr whose full name appears to be Rufus Alford Adams (Jr), and Mary Sue Adams Norris Ziebell. Alfred Rufus and Jewel were the parents of Clifton Adams and Alfred Rufus was the step-father to Augustus J "Jack" O'Tuel (sometimes seen as Jackie) and Archie Leonard O'Tuel. ************ Memorial originally read "Andre Rufus Adams Jr. " whose father was Rufus Andre Adams and whose mother was Sallie Pearl Willingham. The son of Rufus Andre Adams and Sallie Willingham died within a week of Alfred Rufus Adams, Sr and was born in 1910 in Newberry County.
