Read More	Neligh Leader 6/23/1905 Alfred Selfridge Caswell was born in Rockingham County, Illinois, July 15, 1820, and died June 17, 1905, at the home of his daughter Mrs. F. Durkee, southwest of Neligh; aged 84 years, 11 mos., 2 days. His childhood days were passed in Indiana, but when nearly reaching manhood he moved to Canada, where he was employed in the construction of the canal at Niagara Falls. Tiring of this work, when about 22 years of age he moved to Missouri, and afterwards was married to Miss Nancy Bellar, the union being blessed with eight children. His wife died in the neighborhood if ten years after marriage,, and after some time he was married the second time, taking as a bride Miss Caroline Nance. To this union were born nine children, and of the whole family ten children are still living. In 1883 he came to Nebraska with his family and settled on a homestead fourteen miles southwest of Neligh. From there he moved to Wheeler county, and then to Boone county. His wife died September 3, 1895, and having no children remaining at home to care for him in his declining years, he decided to abandon housekeeping and pass his remaining years with his married sons and daughters. He came from Albion to Neligh about three weeks ago to spend the summer with his two daughter, Mrs. J.P. Haynes and Mrs. J.F. Durkee. Mr. Caswell was an earnest christian from boyhood, and had won the confidence and esteem of very many friends in the southwest portion of Antelope, Wheeler and Boone counties. He was a man of robust constitution, and until three days of death was apparently in his usual health and vigor. The living children are five sons and five daughters: Mrs. Rachel Bryant, Kansas City, MO; Mrs. Martha Walker, Mike, Mo; Uel Caswell, Oklahoma; D.W. Caswell, Albion, Neb; C.F. Caswell, Femont, Neb; Mrs. Malinda Sheets, Sioux City, Iowa; Mrs. Laura Haynes, Neligh, Neb; Clark Caswell, Tacoma, Wash; Leonard Caswell, Bartlett, NEb. Mrs. Marconia Durkee, Neligh, Neb. The funeral was held Monday at 12 o'clock at their residence of the daughter, Mrs. Durkee, the services being conducted by Reb. Williams of Clearwater, afterwards the remains being laid to rest in Laurel Hill cemetery, this city. To the friends who were so kind to us during our bereavement, and especially to the ladies for their gifts of flowers, we extend our heartfelt thanks. May the shadows of life seldom cross their pathway is an earned wish for THE CHILDREN
