(Perrysville), died Sunday afternoon, Jan. 2, 2004, in his home following an extended illness. He was born May 26, 1942, in Stark County, a son of the late Roy and Opal Walters Logan. Al was a life resident of Perry Township, attending the Perrysville grade school and graduation from Scio High School in 1960, where he won the most outstanding athlete award in 1960 and was awarded the FFA American Farmer degree in 1963. He farmed in Perry Township his entire life with the exception of the time he served his country from 1966 through 1968 in the Army's 1st Armored Division, 81st Armor Company "C" 2nd Br. with the rank of Sgt. E5. While serving in the Army he earned the National Defense Service Medal, was a rifle sharpshooter and had expert status with both the pistol and the 90mm tank weapons. He is a member of the Perrysville United Methodist Church, the Ohio Cattleman's Assn. And the Tri-County Cattleman's Assn., Carroll County Farm Bureau, and the East Central Ohio Forestry Assn. All had served on the Carroll County School Board from 1964 to 1966 and was a charter member of the Perrysville Fire Department, and was a Soil Conservation Board member from 1965 to 1966 and again from 1971 through 1976, having been SCS Farmer of the Year in 1964. Al had served as a Carroll County Mounted Deputy from 1967 until 1971. He was also an avid hunter and Life Member of the NRA. Al had worked from 1975 through 1987 for Central Fuel of Dover, O. Since 1987, he has worked as a resource specialist for the Carroll Soil and Water Conservation District in Carrollton, O. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Ann Albaugh, whom he married June 23, 1962, three sons, Calvin and Aaron Logan, both of Perrysville, and Jon of Steubenville, O., one brother and sister-in-law, Dallas (Susan) Logan of Perrysville; one sister and brother-in-law, Janet (Tom) Postlethwait of Carrollton; his mother-in-law, Lavada (George) Miller of Carrollton; one brother-in-law, Art (Ruth Ann) Albaugh of Carrollton; and two grandchildren, Brittanie and Hunter Logan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie, in 1986. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Perrysville United Methodist Church where visitation will be held Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Burial will follow in the Perrysville Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the VFW, DAV and American Legion.
