Description	:	Hearing the call for breakfast Christmas morning, S. W. LaChapelle, one of Chelan's oldest pioneers citizens, started from the sidewalk where he had been shoveling snow to the doorstep, dropped dead within a few steps of the door. Dr. Piro was immediately summoned and pronounced death due to heart failure. Called in the act of performing a service for service was characteristic of this kindly gentleman. Sad indeed, it is for those who are left behind, and our hearts go out to them in sympathy. Funeral services will be held from St. Andrew's church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Short version... Short version Alfred Wm. LaChapelle was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1846. He left for Maine in 1863, went to New York in 1865, took a sailing vessel around the Horn to California goldfields. He spent two years in Ca., going to Idaho gold fields in 1867. In 1870 he went to Yakima. Shortly after reaching Yakima country he bought the mail route from Paso to Yakima, keeping the route for two years. He married Arnettie Lord in 1882. He is survived by a widow and four children, Mrs. R. V. Meliza, Edith Hogenson, A. W. LaChapelle, Jr., Mrs. Ralph Beckley, and George LaChapelle; nine grandchildren; Edna Mae, Deonna, Vernon and Alfred Meliza; Helen, Marie and Betty Hogenson, and Marcelle and David Beckley.
