He was a retired employee of Smurfit-Stone Corporation in Hopewell, Va. (formerly Continental Can Company and Stone Container Corporation). "Cisco" Kidd, 89, of Chesterfield, departed this life on April 4, 2007 after a long battle with multiple illnesses. He was a retired employee of Smurfit-Stone Corporation in Hopewell, Va. (formerly Continental Can Company and Stone Container Corporation). Originally from Mecklenburg County, he served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Kidd was preceded in death by an infant son, Warren Burdette Kidd. Algie enjoyed his family, gardening, working with bicycles and vacuum cleaners and helping others. He volunteered at McGuire Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, where he was affectionately known as "Papa Kidd". Algie was an active member of Wood's United Methodist Church, the South Chesterfield Ruritan Club and the American Legion Post 284 as long as his health permitted. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucille O. Kidd; a daughter, Linda S. Kidd, both of Chesterfield; a son, W. Burdell "Bill" Kidd of Marietta, Ga.; along with a host of extended family members and dear friends. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday evening at the Colonial Heights chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday evening at Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home in South Hill, Va. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2007 at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery, 3311 South Hill Rd., Kenbridge Va., 23944. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association, the Alzheimer's Association or Wood's United Methodist Church. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com. Son of Bart Benjamin Kidd (b. circa 1889) and Bettie E. Tudor (b. circa 1891), who were married 12.Mar.1913, Mecklenburg County. Bart died and Bettie married John Baxter Johnson on 26.Dec.1927, Mecklenburg. John adopted all three of Bettie's sons; Wallace T. Kidd, Roland A. Kidd and Algie N. Kidd.
