Description	:	Spent most of her adult life making Sumner beautiful. She has created an oasis of serenity and loveliness in her own home which depicts the beauty and love she has given to her family. Her parents were immigrants from France and her father was a miner. When Alice was 4 years old her family moved to Orting where she attended school and grew to womanhood. She has created an oasis of serenity and loveliness in her own home which depicts the beauty and love she has given to her family. Her parents were immigrants from France and her father was a miner. When Alice was 4 years old her family moved to Orting where she attended school and grew to womanhood. Her community activities started before World War II, when she was involved with pre-school and Girl Scout activities. One of her proudest achievements as a Scout leader was bringing her Brownie Troop through high school and having seven of her girls earn the Curved Bar Award, equivalent to the Eagle Scout rank. These same girl scouts have kept in touch with her all these years and their accomplishments have been a blessing to her. During the war, Alice helped roll bandages, and was also instrumental in initiating a number of other civic projects. She was one of a group that formed a Well Baby Clinic, helped form the Benevolent League for Retarded Children, the first organization of its kind and the forerunner of the Washington State Association for Retarded Citizens. Member of: Women's Civic Improvement Club Puyallup Valley Chamber of Commerce Was one of the founders of the Sumner Federated Garden Club, of which she was Beautification Chairman A charter member of the Sumner Historical Society, she was asked by former Mayor Everett Foster to design a historic marker depicting Whitworth College in Sumner. Perhaps her greatest achievement was the beautification work she did in Sumner. With the help of the members of the Sumner Federated Garden Club, and with the help and cooperation of the City of Sumner personnel, she was instrumental in buying and developing Siebenthaller Park, placed a bench and picnic tables in Loyalty Park and landscaped and planted trees and shrubs at each of the entrances to the city of Sumner. In 1962, Alice won the World's Fair Cleanup and Beautification Award and a 3rd place trophy for cleaning up the corner of Main and Traffic Streets. In 1969, she was presented a trophy by then Gov. Daniel J. Evans for the work she did as litter control chairman. She helped design and landscaped the grounds for her church, Sumner Presbyterian and served as a deaconess. Preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Wait.
