Nelson, at 9:30 last Friday morning, following an illness of several month's duration. Mrs. Nolan had been suffering with heart ailment and complications but she was bedfast but a week preceding her death. Her daughter, Mrs. Allan Ambrose of Glenn Ellyn, Ill., a registered nurse, spent six weeks caring for Mrs. Nolan in her last illness, and another daughter, Mrs. W.C. Feyder of Hartford, S.D., was here two weeks preceding her death. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's church in this city at 9:30 Monday morning, Rev. Fr. J.M. Neppel officiating. Burial was made in the Catholic cemetery. Alice Agnes Filbern, sixth child of Michael and Beatrice Filbern, was born in Madison, Wis., Oct. 18, 1861, and passed away Jan. 7, 1938, having attained the age of 76 years, 2 months and 19 days. She was the last member of a family of eight children. She grew to young womanhood in Madison and was married to John P. Nolan there June 22, 1881. After her marriage she went with her husband to Huron, S.D., where he was employed as an engineer by the North Western Railway company. She continued to make her home at Huron until the spring of 1894 when the family came to Hawarden and she lived in this city continuously since that time. Forty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Nolan moved onto the old Nolan home place in the west part of town and three years later they built the beautiful residence which was her home until the death of her husband, who passed away May 20, 1936. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Nolan made her home with her daughter and family, in order that she might receive the care she needed. She was the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive her. Her eldest son, John, met accidental death Aug. 15, 1916. The children who survive her are Mrs. W.C. Feyder, Hartford, S.D.; R.H. Nolan, Cherokee; Dr. A.H. Nolan, Madison, S.D.; Mrs. Allan Ambrose, Glenn Ellyn, Ill.; Mrs. A.J. Beck and Frank Nolan, Woodburn, Ore., and Mrs. Roy Nelson, Hawarden. There are 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mrs. Nolan was of a quiet and unassuming nature and her home and family were ever her first thoughts. In the rearing of her large family Mrs. Nolan devoted all her energy and no task was too great for her to undertake in looking after the needs of her children, who in turn showered their devotion on her in her declining years. As a neighbor and friend she was kind and sympathetic. She was a true Christian woman and a faithful follower of the Catholic faith throughout her life. Noland and daughters, Gertrude and Kathleen of Madison, S.D.; Mr. and Mrs. R.H.
