Lee Jan 24 1916 - Nov 23 2009 Alice Lee, 93, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Sanford University Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Alice A. Joneson was born January 24, 1916 to Gust and Alice (Valgren) Joneson at Valley Springs, SD. She grew up in Valley Springs where she received her education, attending country school at district #46, and graduating from Valley Springs, High School in 1934. Following high school, she attended General Beadle College (Dakota State University) in Madison, SD where she received a 2 year teaching certificate in 1937. On July 28, 1942, she was united in marriage with Coon C. Lee in Spokane, WA. Alice taught school in Powell, WY from 1937 until 1945. The couple moved to Casper, WY where they lived for two years, before moving to Sioux Falls in 1947. She taught school at Jefferson Elementary School in Sioux Falls, beginning in 1953. During her time of teaching in Sioux Falls, Alice attended Sioux Falls College and earned her BS Degree in 1961. Alice retired from teaching in 1980. She was a lifetime member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA and church circle. She served as a Sunday School teacher and was Sunday School Superintendent for several years. She was also a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority, Sioux Falls Chapter; and the Sioux Falls Area Retired Teachers Association. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter, Kathryn (Robert) Bendick of Amelia, OH; her grandchildren, Petty Officer 1st Class, R. Scott (Nicole) Bendick, and Karen (Petty Officer 1st Class Charles) Nalley. Both her grandson, Scott, and her grand son-in-law, Charles are currently on active duty in the United States Navy. Also surviving are one sister, Lois (Ralph) Hansen of Brandon, SD; two brothers, Harold (Dee) Joneson of Valley Springs, SD and Myron (Margaret) Joneson, of Dell Rapids, SD; and two brothers-in-law, Richard (Helen) Jacobson of Valley Springs, SD, and Harvey Olson of Enid, OK. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Coon in 1989; four sisters, Helen Mathison, Norma Alink, Marjorie Jacobson and Jane Olson. Memorial services will begin at 1:00 pm Saturday at Beaver Valley Lutheran Church. Interment will be at 12 noon in the Beaver Valley Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 6:30 pm Friday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
