Blodgett October 31, 1934 - October 1, 2021 Obituary Allie Flather Blodgett "Mugsie," 86, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully at home on October 1, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald W. Blodgett, who passed away in 2002. Allie was born on October 31, 1934, in Boston, MA, daughter of the late John Rogers Flather and Elizabeth Newell Flather. She was raised and educated in Lowell, MA, graduated from The Winsor School and Smith College. She is survived by her children, Ruth Blodgett and David Crane, Elizabeth Blodgett Smith and Stanley (Tim) Smith, Jr., Amy Blodgett and Bill Stafford, D. Ward Blodgett, Jr. and Susan Blodgett; her adoring grandchildren, Christopher Crane and Lindsey Crane, Alice Crane and Nicholas Briggs, Robin Bean Crane, Victoria Smith, Abigail Smith, Samantha Stafford, Thomas Stafford, Drake Blodgett, Albert Blodgett, Russell Blodgett, Kelly Collins, Meghan Collins, Casey Collins; her sister Betsey and Richard Haddad; a brother-in-law, Donald Breen; and her cherished nieces, nephews, friends and long-term companion Philip Tierney. She was predeceased by siblings Katherine Breen, Roger Flather and Newell Flather. Allie connected genuinely with each person she encountered, listening intently to their stories. She was never hesitant to share her values of hard work, fairness, inclusion and the importance of going the extra mile for others. Allie believed in lifelong learning; she was a member of a study group for over 60 years and never missed actively participating in every Grandparents' Day. She was always full of positive energy, curiosity, kindness, empathy, and sparkling smile, and wrote the best personal, thoughtful notes. You wanted to be your best self around Allie. She was the Director of Alumni Affairs and an early leader in diversity efforts at The Winsor School, and an active volunteer and contributor for countless nonprofits, schools, and community organizations. Her active service included Board Chair, Boston Biomedical Research Institute; founder, Swampscott Youth Soccer Association, founder and board member, Clifton Improvement Association; historical committee, Eastern Yacht Club; board member, MSPCC; Board of Advisors, Peabody Essex Museum; trustee, Pingree School; and the head of countless class reunions. A Celebration of Life for Allie will be held on May 14, 2022 (tentative). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Wing Scholarship at The Winsor School, the D.W. Blodgett Exemplary Service Fund at Salem Hospital, or the Clifton Improvement Association.
