Description	:	Alice Ann Brotherton, daughter of Edward James and Lela (Marshall) Brotherton was born September 28, 1934 north of Forbes, ND on the family farm. She started country school and graduated from Forbes High School with the Class of 1952. She then attended Ellendale Normal and Industrial College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for one year in Albertha Township in Dickey County, ND. She was united in marriage to Edwin James Klatt on June 6, 1954 in the Presbyterian Church at Forbes. She started country school and graduated from Forbes High School with the Class of 1952. She then attended Ellendale Normal and Industrial College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for one year in Albertha Township in Dickey County, ND. She was united in marriage to Edwin James Klatt on June 6, 1954 in the Presbyterian Church at Forbes. They made their home southeast of Ellendale on his family farm. She worked as a teacher's aide in Ellendale schools for several years. She also was the cook for her husband's custom combine crew for many years. She died March 6, 2007 at Prince of Peace Care Center at Ellendale. Alice loved all children and spending time with her children and grandchildren playing games was always delightful. She was an accomplished seamstress and also enjoyed quilting and knitting. She liked to get outside and snowmobile and enjoyed league bowling with her friends. Her home was very special to her; she was creative, very handy with remodeling and upholstery. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of Silverleaf Homemaker's Club and Guelph Whirl-a-ways. She had been very active with 4-H. Survivors include her husband of Ellendale, four daughters, Gail (Paul) Veland and Brenda (Boyd) Sand, both of Ellendale, Joan Sheldon of Fort Collins, Colorado and Amy (Donner) Dean of Byers, Colorado, one brother, LeeVern (Alice Bernice) Brotherton of Spooner, Wisconsin, one sister, Linda (Richard) Wedell of Ellendale, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her parents preceded her in death. Funeral service will be Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Zion Lutheran Church at Ellendale. The Rev. Leo Deitemeyer will officiate. Burial will be in the Ellendale City Cemetery. Honorary Casketbearers will be the Forbes High School Class of 1952. Casketbearers will be her grandchildren, Joe Veland, Lindsey Veland, Thor Sand, Sally Sand, James Sheldon, Howie Youngman, Chase Dean and Gage Dean. The family prefers memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association-ND Chapter, 4357 13th Ave. S, Fargo, ND 58103. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ellendale have been entrusted with arrangements.
