Honorary pallbearers are the Catholic Daughters of the America's. Friends may greet the family beginning at 9:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011, at the church. Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in New Hampton is in charge of the arrangements. Alice Ann Frey was born November 20, 1908, on the Woldan family farm in rural Winnishiek County, IA, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Zak) Woldan. At an early age, the family moved to Spillville, IA, where Alice attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic School. She received all her sacraments in the Catholic Faith. On October 14, 1931, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic church in Spillville, she married Ernest Phillip Frey. To this union two daughters were born. The couple farmed near Little Turkey, IA, for 43 years. Alice and Ernie were partners in farming and did everything together, including gardening, playing cards, traveling and visiting with family. They were members of Assumption Parish in Little Turkey where Alice also sang in the church choir. In 1977 Ernie and Alice moved to Lawler and joined Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church. In 1991 they celebrated their 60th anniversary. Ernie died on March 7, 1995, at the age of 85. Alice was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the America's and belonged to the Senior Citizens in Lawler and Little Turkey. She will be remembered by her family for the kolache's she made and the stories she told. Survivors include two daughters; Patricia (Fred) Miller of Independence, Kathleen (Ernie) Heying of Calmar; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a granddaughter, Sandra Miller; one brother, Frank Woldan; four sisters, Regina Soukup, Frances Frey, Alma Frana and Martha Klimesh.
