Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Armfield Heath, widow of Major W. C Heath, who died in a Charlotte hospital Friday morning, after an extended illness, were conducted from the home on the Waxhaw road Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock, in charge of Rev. George Stephens, assisted by Rev. J. H. Armbrust, pastor of Central Methodist church, of which she was a life-long member. Burial was in the family plot in the Monroe cemetery. Mrs. Heath was born on July 4, 1866 and was in her 78th year. She had been a resident of Monroe her entire life and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Emsley Armfield. She and Major Heath were married on November 9, 1887, and have three surviving children They are A. A. Heath and Miss Lura Heath of Monroe, and Mrs. J. R. McMullen of Washington, D. C. She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. W. S. Lee, Mrs. J. Walter Laney and Mrs. S. H. Hudson, of Monroe; two brothers, Frank Armfield of Concord and Emsley Armfield of Monroe. Mrs. Heath was one of the city's most highly esteemed and beloved women. She possessed a pleasing personality and kindly disposition that won for her a host of friends, and she was above all a Christian woman of high ideals and noble purposes. She was devoted to her home and family and lived a quiet, simple life serving best her family, friends and neighbors, who are deeply grieved at her passing. The large gathering of friends and relatives that attended the last rites and the many beautiful floral offerings attested to the high esteem in which she was held.
