Hofferber Alice Burkart Hofferber, 87, passed away Saturday morning, May 11. at the Valley Health Care Center. She was born on Dec. 17, 1903, at Walter, Russia, the daughter of Chris and Katherin Burkart. Alice was baptized in her infancy. She came to the United States with her parents May, 5, 1905. They lived for a short while at Lincoln NB. Then they moved to Garden City, NB., where they engaged in farming. In December 1913, she and her parents came to Huntley Project near Osborn, MT., and farmed there for two years. In 1916, the family moved to a homestead near Pompeys Pillar and she attended schools on the Huntley Project. On Nov, 23, 1928, Alice was married to Adam Hofferber at Worden, MT. They farmed near Pompeys Pillar until his death on May 31, 1967. Alice then moved to Billings where she has lived until the present time. She was a member of Worden Bethlehem Congregational Church and was confirmed in that same church in her youth. She was also a member of the Ladies Aid of that Church and South Park Senior Center. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and piecing quilts. Survivors include her son, Wayne and his wife, Wesleta Hofferber of Billings; two grandsons, Shawn Hofferber, of Seattle, WA. and Scott Hofferber of Billings. two great-grandchildren, Scotty and Ceri Hofferber; three step-granddaughters, and four stepgreat-grandchildren, one sister, Elizabeth Onlander of Worden and a brother, Herman Burkart of Vancouver, B. C., Canada. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday. May 14, at Bethlehem Congregational Church of Worden. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine, MT. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge.
