Description	:	Alice Siver, 91 of De Smet and formerly of Brookings, died on March 20, 2017 at the Brookings Hospice Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 25 at the American Lutheran Church in De Smet at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 5-7 PM at the Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet. The Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet is in charge of arrangements. Alice was born April 17, 1925, to Alvin H. Klinkel and Irene C (Raber) Klinkel on the Klinkel farm near Bancroft, SD. She was baptized into the Christian faith at the Bancroft Presbyterian Church. At an early age, Alice’s family left the farm and moved to De Smet, where she grew up, attended school, and was confirmed at American Lutheran Church. Alice, with the help of her sister, Helen, began the role of homemaker at the young age of 15, after the sudden passing of her mother. On February 15, 1946, Alice married Alvin R Siver and they began their life together in Oldham, where the first of their five children was born. Their next stops brought them to Howard, De Smet, and in 1953, they settled in the Erwin area, where Alice kept busy keeping a home and raising her children. After her older four left home, and with only Charlie left, Alice went to work for the Lake Preston Manor Retirement Center for a number of years and eventually retired. She and Alvin continued to live in Erwin after her retirement, and then resettled, for a time, in Sioux Falls, and Arco, MN. When caring for a home became too much for them, they moved into an apartment in Brookings, where Alice unconditionally cared for Alvin until he passed away. She continued to reside in Brookings until moving to the Good Samaritan Society in De Smet in 1914. After Alvin’s passing, she enjoyed spending time with her family in Brookings and traveling to visit Marcia’s family and visit the farm in Arizona, Courtney Siver and David Siver Jr. in Georgia, and Wayne, Linda, and Alicia in Oregon. Each grandchild and great-grandchild brought joy and a sweet smile to her face. Her unconditional love for her family showed during each moment she spent with them. She especially loved celebrating all their accomplishments, such as various awards and achievements in 4H, school concerts, birthday parties, graduations, and much more. Alice also loved to work puzzles, read, tend to flowers on her porch, and enjoy a cup of tea with her family and friends. Survivors include her children, Marcia Larsen, Sierra Vista AZ; Wayne (Linda), Salem OR; David, De Smet SD; and Charlie (Cindee), Brookings SD; 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren: Barbara (James), Julianna, Jared, Jasen, Jacob, and James; Alicia; Courtney, Evan, and David, Jr; Allison, Malloree, Alivia; Katee (Bruce), Hudson, and Elijah; Jason (Stacie), Hunter, Abbie, Jonathan (Sarah), Gabe, and Owen; her brother, Earl (Jo), TN; sister, Ginger Haggeman, TX; and brother, Dick, DeSmet SD; in addition to many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; one son, Robert; parents, Alvin and Irene Klinkel; her sister, Helen Mahoney; and her brother, Jim Klinkel.
