Alice Catherine Gardner was born April 29, 1916, in rural Eden, SD.She was the daughter of John and Katherine (Steiner) Schlekewy. Read More	Alice C. Gardner, age 90, a former Webster resident died November 15th at St. William's Care Center in Milbank. Alice Catherine Gardner was born April 29, 1916, in rural Eden, SD.She was the daughter of John and Katherine (Steiner) Schlekewy. She lived on the family farm south of Eden with her parents and attended Sacred Heart School in the town of Eden, SD. She was united in marriage on June 30, 1936, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eden, SD with John Gardner. John and Alice farmed on the Gardner family farm south of Eden in DayCounty until 1943.They purchased a farm two miles west of Webster which they operated until moving into Webster in 1976.John died August 14, 1987. Alice moved to St. William's Care Center in Milbank in January of 1995, and has since resided. Alice worked as a trimmer and hemmer at Dakota in Webster for many years.She enjoyed her family, reading, crocheting, playing cards, and gardening. Her family will miss her wonderful baking. Alice was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster and a member of the Altar Society. Alice Gardener is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Kathleen and Burt Nielsen of Richfield, MN and Sherri and Chuck Monson of Milbank, SD; one son and daughter-in-law: Calvin and Jackie Gardner of Webster, SD; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, one sister, Lucille and husband Lambert Knebel of Eden, SD and a brother-in-law: Forrest Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one infant brother, Alfred, and one daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Norman Hews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 20th in Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. Father Darrell Lamberty will officiate and burial will be in St. Otto's Cemetery, near Webster.
