Description	:	Alice grew up on a mixed farm near Millet, Alberta. She was the fourth in a family of seven children. She was a shy, quiet girl and liked to go to school. For the first few years she walked to Little Hay Lakes School, then she went to Clover Lawn School, about 1 1/2 miles away. She liked spelling tests (usually top in her class), math and literature. For the first few years she walked to Little Hay Lakes School, then she went to Clover Lawn School, about 1 1/2 miles away. She liked spelling tests (usually top in her class), math and literature. Alice's family was quite musical, and she learned to play guitar from her father. She also learned to play an old pump organ. Many evenings were spent singing and playing. In later years she also played at school house dances. She babysat her younger sisters Grace and Marlene quite a lot. She also helped with other household chores. The house did not have running water or electricity. When she was 19 years old, she left the farm to be a waitress in cafes in Leduc, Stettler, Hanna and Camrose. While working in Camrose she met Walter Petersen. Alice and Walter married on June 18, 1958 at Camrose United Church. Her sister Bertha and her husband Herb Wunsch were the attendants. Grace and Marlene sang a song at the service. Alice's mother made her dress. Aunt Ruth Schurek decorated the wedding cake, a fruit cake made at home. For a honeymoon, they went to a cabin in Waterton Park. Their first few months were spent in a small basement suite, then they rented a house for two years. In 1961, they bought a house at 6006 47 Ave. Alice enjoyed caring for her boys and looking after the house while Walter travelled in his job. Alice was an active volunteer in her church and the Camrose Solo Club. She became a confirmed member of Camrose United Church on March 19, 1989. She died suddenly of a heart attack at age 69. Her obituary reads: Of Camrose passed away at the age of 69 years. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Warren (Marion) of Calgary, David (Darlene) of Castlegar, B.C. and Mel (Charlene) Petersen of Abbotsford, B.C.; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Greg, Leanne, Shannon and Julie; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Thorne and Roy (Lorraine) Thorne; three sisters, Bertha Wunsch, Grace (George) Harris and Marlene Groves; and special friend, Bob Moro of Camrose. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Walter and sister, Irene. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from the Camrose United Church with Reverend Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Interment will follow in the Camrose Cemetery.
