Description	:	Alice was born on the Thompson family farm, four miles south of Kanawha. She was the daughter of Abe M. Thompson and Cora (Nelson) Thompson. She married George D. Abbas on March 15, 1939. Alice and George were members of Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. After graduation from Kanawha High School, Mrs. Abbas attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and taught in the Norway Township Rural Schools for three years. She then attended Lutheran Deaconess Hospital (now Lutheran Hospital) Chicago, Ill., and graduated in 1938 with an RN degree. After her marriage to George, she returned to teaching... Alice and George were members of Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. After graduation from Kanawha High School, Mrs. Abbas attended Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and taught in the Norway Township Rural Schools for three years. After her marriage to George, she returned to teaching and taught the children she so cared about for a total of 26 years. She graduated from Drake University College of Education in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1970. Alice was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. She enjoyed and cherished her faith, family and friends. Life-long learning, reading, poetry, word puzzles, painting and woodcarving were among her many interests. She accepted all people and lived her life on the “sunny side of the street.”
