Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville with Rev. David Tonn officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Read More	Alice Howland, age 89, of Big Stone City, died Friday, April 24, 2015, at Northridge Residence in Ortonville. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville with Rev. David Tonn officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday, April 27, at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday for one hour prior to the time of service at the church. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Alban Township. Music will be provided by Amy Adelman, organist and Nancy Hilleren, vocalist. Casket bearers will be Michael Mueller, Stephen Mueller, Tim Mueller, Tony Mueller, Bradley Howland, and Mark Mueller. Honorary bearers include the staff and hospice at Northridge Residence, and all of Alice's family and friends. Alice Dorothy Howland was born on July 17, 1925, at her home in Kilborn Township, Grant County, SD to Arthur and Maimie (Amsden) Hedman. She grew up on a farm south of Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School with the class of 1943. Alice was united in marriage to Paul Mueller in 1945. To this union, eight children were born. Paul died in 1964. Alice married Morris Howland in 1969, adding four step-children to the family. Primarily a homemaker, Alice also had the pleasure of working as co-owner/operator of the Cashtown Cafe and as a secretary and bookkeeper several different times during her life. Alice was a hardworking and skilled woman. Her children considered her to be creative, always making their Halloween costumes or Christmas decorations. She was also very skilled at knitting, crocheting, and sewing. Alice was an impressive organist and pianist, for the most part playing only by ear. She also could play accordion and was a talented vocalist. Many fond memories were made from Alice's cooking and baking abilities. She always had a meal ready for her family and was an outstanding baker. It was common for her to bake ten loaves of bread at a time and to have cinnamon rolls ready every Saturday. Alice also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing golf, polka dancing, Scrabble, and watching Twins baseball. Most important to Alice was the love she shared with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Alice was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, the Garden Club/Extension Club, and the Sweet Adelines. Alice Howland passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Northridge Residence, having reached the age of 89. Cherishing her memory is her husband, Morris Howland of Big Stone City; children: Michael Mueller of Doylestown, PA; Stephen (Dusty) Mueller of Big Stone City; Timothy (Elly) Mueller of Sauk Rapids, MN; Patty Dill of Spicer, MN; Tony (Bridget) Mueller of Rochester, MN; and Cindy (David) Brod of Bloomington, MN; step-children: Sharon (Leroy) Rud of Maryville, TN; Bradley (Donna) Howland of Fergus Falls, MN; and Pamela Lanemann of Gilbert, AZ; 29 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Dianne Fay of Scottsdale, AZ; sister, Jane Hedman of Milbank; and several nieces and nephews. Alice is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Paul Mueller; sons: David and Peter Mueller; step-son, Marlowe Howland; son-in-law, Bill Lanemann; brother, Lyle Hedman; and sister, Gladys Keller. - Mundwiler Funeral Home
