Description	:	Mrs. Alice D. Schroeder, 91, of Calamus, Iowa, died Monday morning, January 1, 2018 at Wheatland Manor. The former Alice Dorothy Willey was born August 16, 1926, at rural Lost Nation to the late Grover and Alta (Creger) Willey. She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1944. Schroeder, 91, of Calamus, Iowa, died Monday morning, January 1, 2018 at Wheatland Manor. The former Alice Dorothy Willey was born August 16, 1926, at rural Lost Nation to the late Grover and Alta (Creger) Willey. She graduated from Lost Nation High School in 1944. Alice received a teaching certificate from Mt. Saint Claire College in Clinton and taught in one room school houses in the Lost Nation and Baldwin areas. On June 2, 1945, Alice married Lavern Harvey Schroeder in Roswell, New Mexico, while Lavern was serving in the Army Air Force during World War II. Following Lavern’s discharge from service, they farmed and raised their five daughters at rural Calamus. Lavern preceded Alice in death March 27, 2006. Alice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus and Farm Bureau. Her family was of utmost importance. Alice loved country living, farm life, sewing, gardening, reading, coffee with her friends at Steffens and eating at Wapsi Oaks. She is surviving by daughters, Lavon (Bill) Barrow of Marion, Ladon (Wes) Griesbach of Lowden, Lynn (John) Matthews of Moorpark, California, and Lana (John) Pattee of Calamus; a son-in-law, Mike Hughes of DeWitt; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Marlyn (Dorothy) Willey of Spragueville; nieces and nephews. Also preceding Alice in death were a daughter, Lori; a son-in-law, Leonard Goettsch; a grandson; a sister, Myrtle (Frank) Ihns and a brother, Grover (Doris) Willey. The family will receive relatives and friends at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018. A Service of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus with the Rev. William Runaas, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery, Wheatland. Pallbearers will be Bill Barrow, Wes Griesbach, John Matthews, John Pattee, Joe Barrow, Scot King, Johnny Matthews and Michael Hughes. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Hughes. Schultz Funeral Homes.
