Mother of Alice, Chester B, Clyde B, Cloyd B, Carl B, Carroll B and Nadine. Alice Ealen Newell, 87, died at Tower Park Nursing Home in Oskaloosa, Monday, Dec. 26, 1983. She had been a resident there since Oct. 22, 1983. She was born July 29, 1896, in Marion County to Charles Sidney and Fannie Oldham Murphy. On Jan. 29, 1921, she married Albert Newell in Des Moines. He died in 1972. She taught school in Marion and Wapello County rural schools seven years before her marriage. She was a member of the Eddyville Women Club, Eddyville Garden Club, the Retired School Teachers Association and the Retired Federal Employees Association and was Red Cross Chairman, for several years, serving as first aid instructor. She is survived by four sons, Charles of Eddyville, Clyde of Blakesburg, Cloyd of Hannibal, Mo., and Carroll of Marshalltown; two daughters, Nadine Armbruster of Oskaloosa and Alice Hols of Big Spring, Texas; and 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and 3 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Newell, Clyde Newell, Cloyd Newell, Carroll Newell, Robert Armbruster and Wayne Hols. The service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eddyville Methodist Church the Rev. Helen Brown and Warren and Willard Randol officiating. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville.
