Alice Elaine Seas was born April 19, 1933, to Carl William and Blanche (Murphy) Seas at her grandparents' home southeast of White, S.D. Elaine attended country school until fifth grade, when the family moved into White, where she attended school and graduated from White High School in 1951. She worked at St. John's Hospital in Huron as a nurse's aid until the fall. She entered St. John's School of Nursing, graduating in June of 1954. She continued to work at St. John's as a registered nurse until the fall of 1958, when she started school at South Dakota State University. Elaine married Mack W. Mitchell on Jan. 25, 1958, in White. They farmed south of Frankfort until 1982. They moved to Tulare in 1979. Mack and Elaine ran a small engine repair service. Mack died in 1983. Elaine took a refresher course and began working as a RN in December of 1983 at James Valley Healthcare Center in Redfield. She retired from nursing in 1999 due to health reasons. Elaine enjoyed gardening and having many flower beds, sending cards to family and friends, attending concerts, plays, taking trips with her sisters, shopping with friends and taking care of her extended family. Elaine is survived by her daughter, Valerie Mitchell of Murdo, S.D.; her son, Joe Mitchell of Tulare; her grandson, Zane Mack Mitchell of Murdo; and three sisters: Marlys Paulsen of Ethan, Myrna Jensen of Lake Norden, and Virginia (Richard) Hillestad of Garretson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Mack in 1983; one sister, Frances; two brothers: Shirley and Kenneth; nephew, Brad; two sisters-in-law: Arlene and Joann Seas; and two brothers-in-law: Norman Paulsen and Christian Jensen.
