Description	:	Alice’s obituary, which I have transcribed below, states that she was born in Virginia. I do not believe this is correct. Alice’s parents, Amos and Lucy Freeman, were married on June 1, 1855, in DeWitt, Illinois. Lucy was born in Virginia, but Alice is shown in the census records as being born in Illinois, and I find no indication that she was born in Virginia. If anyone has information verifying her place of birth is different, please let me know. Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier” 60-Year Resident Of Ottumwa Is Dead Mrs. Alice Ketcham Was Church Charter Member. Mrs. Alice Ketcham, 84, of 614 East Finely avenue, died at her home Sunday at 8:06 a.m. She was the daughter of Amos and Lucy Freeman, born in Virginia March 10, 1857. She had been a resident of Ottumwa for 60 years. She was a charter member of the Davis Street Christian church. Surviving are three sons, Fred, John and Carl of Ottumwa; four daughters, Emma and Etta and Mrs. Louise Allman of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Ida Anderson of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, John, preceded her in death in 1914 [sic-should be 1919]. Funeral services were held today at 3:30 p.m. from the Davis Street Christian church, with the Rev. E.L. Frost in charge. Burial was in McIntire cemetery.
