Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday May 26, 2005 with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service all at the Brooks Funeral Home of Langdon, ND. Visitation will also take place for one hour before the time of the services at the church on Friday. Alice was born October 1, 1917 to Norwegian immigrants, Thormod and Beathe Langerud at Rock Lake, ND. She attended country schools in the Rock Lake/Calvin area before she and her family moved in 1928 to a farm in the Clyde/Calvin area and later to a farm in Cypress Township. She graduated from eighth grade from the Calvin school. She was employed as a housekeeper with several families in the area before she married Harold McConnell March 5, 1938. They raised two children on their farm in Cypress Township. Alice enjoyed working in her garden and yard and tending her many flowers while on the farm. She was a member of the Sarles Presbyterian Church and of the women's organization of the Church and later became a member of Glenila Presbyterian Church at Calvin. They retired from farming in 1981 but continued to live on their farm for sixty years before Harold passed away March 18, 1998. In February 2000 Alice moved in to an apartment in Langdon residing there until October 2003 at which time she became a resident of the Oddfellows Basic Care Home in Devils Lake, ND. In mid January 2005 she entered Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake and mid March she became a resident of Maple Manor Care Center in Langdon. She is survived by her children: Darlene (Myrle) Aronson of Sarles, Dave (Glenda) McConnell of Rock Lake and grandchildren Jodi (Todd) Spale of Rosemount, MN, Cynthia (Fred) Skoda, Joasie & Dylan of Fargo, ND, Becky (David) Loyd of Killeen, TX, Chris McConnell of Rock Lake and Karen McConnell of Eden Prairie, MN, a sister, Evelyn McConnell of Devils Lake, brother Palmer (Ila) Langerud of Williston, sister-in-laws Fern Langerud of Grand Forks and Charlotte Langerud of Beach, ND along with many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers, Hjalmar, Bennett, LeRoy, Alvin, Gordon, Alton and sisters Clara and Ellen. Brooks Funeral Home, Langdon, is in charge of arrangements.
