Description	:	On Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, Alice Ida Cumming passed away peacefully at her home in Hamilton at the age of 90. Living her life and final years in her home was made possible with the loving care of her friend, Joanne, and caregivers, Sara, Cathy and Ruby, as well as countless others. Read More	On Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, Alice Ida Cumming passed away peacefully at her home in Hamilton at the age of 90. Living her life and final years in her home was made possible with the loving care of her friend, Joanne, and caregivers, Sara, Cathy and Ruby, as well as countless others. We know that Alice appreciated all the loving care she received to make her wishes come true. Alice was born Dec. 14, 1917, at her grandmother's house in St. Nazianz, Wis. Her parents, William and Anna Gutman, were homesteaders and settled in Sumatra, Mont. It was in Sumatra that Alice ("The Gutman Girl") made lifelong friends and extended family that included the Koch family. She enjoyed basketball and was a star player. Alice moved to Billings and raised two children, Rita Cleary-Bloom and Carol Johnson. In 1963, Alice was courted by Hugh Cumming, another Sumatra neighbor. Hugh and Alice were married and eventually landed in Hamilton, where they enjoyed a beautiful life together in the Bitterroot Valley for over 30 years. Alice loved her home and all the puttering she could handle, as well as every card game that Hamilton had to offer. She would oftentimes host a card party. Alice loved the changes in the seasons. Her home was a great place to visit and is the centerpiece of many memories for the entire family. Alice made sure to keep in touch with everyone either by mail or by countless hours talking on the telephone. Alice will be missed by her entire family, including her younger, brother Jerome Gutman and his wife LaVerne; daughters, Rita and Carol; son-in-law, Mick; grandchildren, Macie, Chris and his partner Mike, Kevin and his wife Teri-Kay, Amy and her husband Michael, and Kyle; as well as great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jana, Mackenzie and Carter. Our sorrow will only be surpassed by our eternal love for Alice, our mother, grandma and great-grandma. We will miss you! Graveside service at Mountview Cemetery in Billings.
