ALICE IDA SIGLER SCHNETTER Alice Ida, daughter of Earl and Elma (Deaton) Lewis, was born October 12, 1926, in Guthrie County. She attended country school near the family farm south of Coon Rapids and graduated from Bayard High School. On February 7,1946, Alice was united in marriage with Belmont Glen Sigler at Troy, Kansas. Three children were born to this union. Alice and Belmont farmed near Coon Rapids and Alice worked in Coon Rapids and Carroll on the side at a Laundromat and dry cleaners and waitressed and cooked at various restaurants. After Belmont's untimely death in August of 1964, Alice worked full-time outside of the home mostly as a waitress and cook. On September 17, 1968, Alice was blessed with a second marriage , this time to Harold "Curly" Schnetter in Carroll. They lived in Carroll and owned and operated H & A Cafe Truck Stop When they moved to the Bayard area, they operated the Bayard Cafe and a Laundromat Alice then cooked at the Woodward State Hospital until Parkinson's disease forced her to retire in the mid-1980s. In March of 2001, Alice became a resident of the Carroll Health Center in Carroll Curly died August 6, 2003. Alice was a member of St Patrick's Church in Bayard and was a Cub Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, sewing, knitting, craftwork and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On Friday, December 12, 2003, Alice died at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, at the age of 77 years and two months. Besides her parents and both husbands, Alice was preceded in death by a sister, June Derry She is survived by three children Douglas Sigler and wife Delons of Des Moines; Terry Sigler and wife Jan of Carroll and Mary and husband Terry Fleming of Junction City, KS; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, three stepchildren. Mary Ann and husband Terry Dahl of Rutlans; Harold R. Schnetter and wife Deb of Bradgate; and Charlie Schnetter of Rolfe; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren, two sisters Lessie Lewis and Lula Kerr; one brother Earl Lewis, Jr; a brother-in-law Everett Derry, two sisters-in-laws Gwen Hunter of Havelock and Marilyn Schnetter of Laurens, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
