While she was just a small girl, her folks moved to South Dakota. They returned to Iowa after three years by covered wagon. She stayed with her aunt while she attended the Bagley High School, where she graduated in 1907. She taught in the rural schools of Greene County. ANDERSON Alice Josephine Maas was born March 25, 1888 to David and Dorthea Leiffert Maas, on a farm near Bagley, Iowa. While she was just a small girl, her folks moved to South Dakota. They returned to Iowa after three years by covered wagon. She stayed with her aunt while she attended the Bagley High School, where she graduated in 1907. She taught in the rural schools of Greene County. She was married to William Anderson on March 5, 1911. The couple observed their Golden Wedding Anniversary on March 5, 1961. They lived on a farm in Greene County for one year after their marriage and then moved to the farm on which their son Harold and his family now reside. Upon retirement in 1946 they moved to Coon Rapids. She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church and of Trinity Ladies' Aid for 37 years. This union was blessed with three children - Paula, now Mrs. George Schumacher; Lula, now Mrs. Paul Honold; and Harold Anderson. They all reside near Coon Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one granddaughter, and one brother, Charles Maas. She leaves her son Harold, the two daughters, Paula and Lula, eight grandchildren; Jeanette Edwards, Jim Honold; Robert and Sharon Schumacher; Julie, Jolene, Michael, and Thomas Anderson; one great-grandson, Nicholas Edwards; one aunt, Mrs. Laura Leiffert of Des Moines; one sister, Miss Elsie Maas of Long Beach, California; brothers Harold of King's Beach, California, Elmer Maas of Squiem, Washington, and George Maas of Canby, Minnesota; besides a host of other relatives and friends.
