Gonterman, 62, of near Fairfield, and his wife, Alice, 40. The southbound semi-trailer truck and the Gonterman car apparently met head-on, officers said, on a Highway 1 curve two miles north of here. The truck went on top of the car and both vehicles, one on top of the other, slid down a 40 foot embankment into a field. The truck driver was thrown from the cab of his truck. He was taken to a Washington hospital for treatment of cuts and bruises and shock. He was identified as Donald Ball, 32, of Muscatine, a driver for the Industrial Molasses Corp. of Muscatine. He was in good condition. Special crane equipment was called in from Cedar Rapids to remove the truck loaded with liquid and dry molasses from the car. Mr. and Mrs. Gonterman were trapped in the wreckage for three hours before they could be removed. Gonterman will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Campbell Funeral chapel in Batavia. Mr. and Mrs. Gonterman, Fairfield Route 3, were killed early Friday when their car collided with a semi-trailer truck north of Brighton during a snowstorm. Last rites will be conducted by the Rev. Dale Ellsworth, pastor of the Batavia Methodist church. Gonterman, 62, will be buried in the Batavia cemetery. Burial for Mrs. Gonterman, 40, will be in the Bentonsport cemetery. Gonterman was born Sept. 13, 1900 in Jefferson county, the son of Tom and Willetta Brock Gonterman. He was married to Letha Ornduff May 7, 1925. She preceded him in death in January, 1961. On Dec. 15, 1961, he was married to Mrs. Alice McAtee. Gonterman is survived by two children, Mrs. Donald Millard, Center Point; and Merrill Gonterman, Milwaukee, Wis. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. George Dailey, Fairfield; Mrs. Frank McBride, Libertyville; and Mrs. Paul Booton, Pomona, Calif. Mrs. Gonterman was born May 12, 1923 at Bonaparte, the daughter of Clinton and Mabel Morris Huff. She graduated from the Mercy hospital school of nursing at Keokuk and later served as a supervisor at Laughlin hospital in Kirksville, MO. Mrs. Gonterman is survived by one son, Michael McAtee, and the following sisters and brothers; Mrs. A. R. Standley, Fairfield; Mrs. Andrew Williams, Bonaparte; Mrs. G.R. Williams, Birmingham; Mrs. Ralph Stout, Washington, Mrs. Gilbert Schrepfer, Farmington; Edna Huff, Bonaparte; Ben, Clinton and Morris Huff, all of Bonaparte.
