She was one of five children born to this family, grew up in Fairview, attended school there, and graduated from Fairview High School in the class of 1922. Okeson, 88, Sabetha, died October 1, 1992, at a hospital in Sabetha. She was born at Fairview, Kansas on June 27,1904, the daughter of Lawrence I. Sawyer and Bess Van Dalsem. She was one of five children born to this family, grew up in Fairview, attended school there, and graduated from Fairview High School in the class of 1922. Alice was united in marriage to Sam Okeson on June 3, 1925, and to this union 3 daughters were born. They lived and farmed northwest of Fairview. They moved into Sabetha to make their home in February of 1946. Alice was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Sabetha, she was a charter member of the Bluebird Unit of the farm neighborhood, and was a member of the MPM Club of Fairview for many years, and took an active part in music and in her church. Sam preceded Alice in death Nov. 29, 1990, after which Alice continued to reside in their home at 402 Main St. in Sabetha. Alice underwent a number of years of ill health, surgeries, and spent a short time in a Sabetha nursing home. Surviving Alice are her three daughters: Virginia Snyder of Clearwater, Ks., Janet Smith of Hinkley, Calif., and Ruth Kellenberger of Sabetha . . .two brothers, Byrl Sawyer of Topeka and Neal Sawyer of Sabetha, and one sister, Helen Fish of Fairview . . . 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, other relatives, and many friends. Graveside services will be held at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha for family and friends Sunday, Oct. 4, 1992, at 2:30 pm, Rev. Bert Moore of the First Congregational Church officiating. Family members will be serving as casket-bearers. Two solo numbers will be sung by Mrs. Jeannie Bachelor. Memorial contributions are designated to the Sabetha Community Hospital. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 to 8:30 pm.
