She was born September 11, 1928 in Hays the daughter of Alex and Josephine (Karlin) Leikam. She attended elementary school in Buckeye, Kansas and graduated from Hays Public High School. Staab, 85, Hays, died Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Via Christi Assisted Living in Hays. She was born September 11, 1928 in Hays the daughter of Alex and Josephine (Karlin) Leikam. She attended elementary school in Buckeye, Kansas and graduated from Hays Public High School. On September 26, 1949 she married Walter J. Staab at St. Severin Catholic Church in Severin, Kansas. She worked at Farmers State Bank and First National Bank, both in Hays, for a total of twenty years. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, cross stitch, upholstery, embroidery, lace making, sewing draperies and was a clothing seamstress. She also enjoyed collecting angels. Survivors include her husband, of the home in Hays, four children; Terri Stanton and husband Loren of Prairie Village, Kansas, Deanne Wakefield and husband William of Wichita, Doug W. Staab and wife Lisa of Holcomb, KS, and Kevin W. Staab and wife Carol of Hays, a brother Vernon Leikam, and thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley Staab, her parents, brothers, William (Bill) Leikam, Alvin Leikam, Robert (Bob) Leikam, Francis (Frank) Leikam, Norman Leikam, and Edgar (Eddie) Leikam, and sisters, Severina Dreiling and Lucille Erbert. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery, Catherine, KS. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am until 9:45, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine. A VFW Auxiliary service will be at 5:30 pm followed by a parish vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
