She was born February 25, 1926, in Carroll County to the late William Roscoe & Mattie Frances Monday Towe. Mrs. Barnard was a retired farmer, missionary, and former certified nursing assistant in several local nursing homes. Read More	CANA, VA ~ Mrs. Mabel Towe Barnard, age 81, of 42 Brushy Fork Road, Cana, VA, on Saturday, September 29, 2007, went to be with her Lord and Savior whom she loved and served. She was born February 25, 1926, in Carroll County to the late William Roscoe & Mattie Frances Monday Towe. Mrs. Barnard was a retired farmer, missionary, and former certified nursing assistant in several local nursing homes. She had a great love for children and animals and had a special dog "Jessie Jean". Mrs. Barnard was a member of Open Door Mission Full Gospel Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and pianist. June Cooke of Rock Hill, SC Tonia Goad & husband Tommy of Cana, VA BROTHER & SISTER-IN-LAW: John "Mountain Man" Towe & wife Cindy of Cana, VA SISTER-IN-LAW: Dot Towe of Elkin, NC SEVERAL NIECES & NEPHEWS SPECIAL NEPHEW: Joe Strickland of Kibler Valley, VA SPECIAL FRIEND: Betty Mays of Cana, VA In addition to her parents, Mrs. Barnard was preceded in death by a brother, Tom Towe. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Open Door Mission Full Gospel Church, Cana, VA, conducted by Rev. Billy Goad & Rev. Chris Crotts with interment in the Towe Family Cemetery. Mrs. Barnard will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Monday night, October 1, from 6-8 PM at Howell Funeral Home of Mount Airy. At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Sally Jones, 73 Mainline Road, Cana, VA. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Open Door Mission Full Gospel Church, Fancy Gap Highway, Cana, VA, or to the donor's choice.
