Description	:	Alice LaRiviere Snodgrass Huller passed away on October 23, 2011. Alice was born in Miles City, Montana on October 2, 1932 to Elmer and Nora (Wetherelt) LaRiviere. Alice grew up on the family ranch on Third Creek south of Broadus and for the first two years attended a country school, living with the teacher during the week. In 1940, the family moved to Broadus where Alice attended the Broadus School. She graduated from Broadus High School in 1950. Read More	Alice LaRiviere Snodgrass Huller passed away on October 23, 2011. Alice was born in Miles City, Montana on October 2, 1932 to Elmer and Nora (Wetherelt) LaRiviere. Alice grew up on the family ranch on Third Creek south of Broadus and for the first two years attended a country school, living with the teacher during the week. In 1940, the family moved to Broadus where Alice attended the Broadus School. She graduated from Broadus High School in 1950. The Korean War left a shortage of teachers, so, after only 3 months of teacher's training, Alice started her 40-year teaching career in a one-room school in North Dakota. In 1954 Alice took a teaching position in Ashland, Montana. This is where she met and married Albert Snodgrass. Albert and Alice raised their daughter Audrey and son Byron on their ranch at Ashland. Albert died in 1984. In 1957 Alice went to work at St. Labre Indian School. In the many years she worked at St. Labre she held a variety of positions, including clerk, teacher, and Principle. It has been said that she could teach a fence post to read. Alice retired in 1988 but continued to work as a substitute teacher for a few years after that. In 1987 Alice married family friend, Jay Frank Huller. Since their five kids had gone to school together and were already good friends, it was an easy merger into one family. Alice and Frank made their home on a ranch near Bridger. Alice was very active and traveled all over the country, including driving the Alcan Highway to Alaska. Alice and Frank traveled to Europe and Australia with their sisters. Alice lost some of her independence in 1997 when she developed macular degeneration. But, thanks to Frank, her sisters, and brothers-in-law, she was still able to do some traveling. Even after she couldn't see well, Alice crocheted afghans for friends and family and made many lap robes that she donated to nursing homes. Alice is survived by: husband, Frank; daughter, Audrey Snodgrass and her son, Shane Wheeler; son, Byron Snodgrass; step-daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Bither and their kids, Patrick, Corey and Mathew; step-son, Greg (Laura) Huller and their kids, Jay, Michael, Mary, Brian and Justin; and step-son, Mark (Teresa) Huller and their daughters, Kim & Tina. Alice also leaves her great-grandkids, Kaylyn, Madison, Logan, Carisma, and John; sister, Gladys (Barney) Considine, their sons, Shawn and Wayne; and sister, Irene (Jim) Ludwigson, and her daughters, Catherine and Sandra. She is also survived by her Snodgrass, Wetherelt, and Huller families, and her many friends that she has made throughout her lifetime. The family wishes to thank Dr. Neal Sorenson and the staff on the 3rd floor at St. Vincent's Hospital for their kindness and compassion. Audrey, Byron, and Shane wish to make a special thanks to Mark, Teresa and Kim. They were with Mom and Frank when the rest of us couldn't be and handled more than their share. Thank God for people like them. The funeral will take place in Ashland at the St. Labre Church at 11 AM on Saturday, October 29, interment at the Ashland cemetery, followed by lunch at the St. Labre Cafeteria. A Memorial will be held in Bridger on Saturday, November 5th at 1 PM at the Civic Center on Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bridger Public Library or Montana Talking Book Library.
