Born June 25, 1936, in Friendsville, she was the daughter of the late Okey R. and Elma A. (Artice) Friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Spear ; her sister, Betty Newcomer and her brother, William Friend. Mrs. Spear was the retired owner of Friendsville Discount Liquors and also previously retired as a teacher's aide and secretary at Friendsville Elementary School. She was a member of Friendsville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Alice was treasurer of Friendsville Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Friendsville Tree committee and was a former Town Council member for many years. She was also a member of the Friendsville Senior Citizens, the Circle of Friends bus group and loved football and NASCAR. Surviving are two sons, Terry E. Spear and Randy P. Spear and wife, Crystal and two daughters, Kimberly Spear and fiancee, Tony White and Kristi Brantner and husband, Bill, all of Friendsville; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeffrey, Travis, Caitlin, Amber, Bill and Kerri; eight great-grandchildren, Katrina, Lucas, Joel, Jett, Cayden, Kendall, Brock and Brody and her loving pet Toby. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 943 Second Ave., Friendsville, on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in Friendsville United Methodist Church, on Monday, Aug. 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tim Bittinger officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Steele Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Friendsville Fire & Rescue Ladies Auxiliary or Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.newmanfuneralhomes.com.
