Alice Petersen was born Sept. 3, 1906, in Cedar Bluffs to Peter and Martha (Jorgensen) Petersen. She graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1923 and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Osterloh, 97, of Hooper died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Hooper Care Center. Alice Petersen was born Sept. 3, 1906, in Cedar Bluffs to Peter and Martha (Jorgensen) Petersen. She graduated from Cedar Bluffs High School in 1923 and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Following her graduation, she taught school in Harrison County, Cedar Bluffs and Hooper Public School for many years. She was a life long learner, teaching Latin, Spanish, English and library science. She had lived in the Hooper area since the 1920s, moving here to teach before her marriage to Irwin Osterloh on June 2, 1932, at Salem Lutheran Church in Fremont. She and her husband moved into town in about 1986 and she had been living at Hooper Care Center for the past three years. Her husband preceded her in death June 8, 1997. She was active in many organizations, including Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hooper Women's Club, Extension Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Friendship Chapter 122, Daughters of the Nile, Questers, Retired Teachers of Dodge County and the Willing Workers at Redeemer Lutheran Church. She valued her friendships within these organizations. She was an avid reader and had a keen interest and appreciation in preserving the history of her community and Nebraska. She possessed and left her family a legacy of grace, intellect, pride, perseverance and spirited zest for living. She was adventurous and curious. Survivors include: a son, Warren (and wife, Pat) Osterloh of Alpharetta, Ga.; a daughter, Janice (Mrs. Ray) Edelmaier of Watsonville, Calif.; a sister, Alma Hanson of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Mary Alice (Mrs. Tim) Quinn of Atlanta, Joel (and wife, Sharon) Osterloh of Suwanee, Ga., Ron (and wife, Mary) Celeste of Duluth, Ga., Mike (and wife, Lena) Edelmaier of Watsonville, Calif., and Patricia (Mrs. Mike) Jones of San Mateo, Calif.; and four great-grandchildren, Cayleigh, Carolyn and Lily Osterloh and Cole Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Alta Petersen McElgunn. Her family is grateful for the kindness bestowed on her by the community she loved and the excellent care provided for these past three years at Hooper Care Center. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper with the Rev. Steve Tjarks officiating. Visitation will be from 2-9 p.m. Friday at Warne-Johnson Funeral Home in Hooper. Burial will be in Hooper Cemetery. Memorials have been established to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Hooper Care Center.hhw
