Read More	Alice Simmons (Millemon) Smith February 16, 1925 ~ March 25, 2022 (age 97) Obituary & ServicesTribute Wall Obituary Alice Rebecca (Millemon) Simmons Smith, of Moravia, Iowa went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 25, 2022 at the age of 97. She was born to William "Bill" and Rosa "Fanchen" (Kingery) Millemon in Moravia, Iowa, the firstborn of 11 children. She grew up in the Moravia, Iowa area, helping her mother with her huge garden, and caring for her younger brothers and sisters. She loved to garden, embroider and create beautiful quilts for her children and grandchildren, using her mother's antique Singer treadle sewing machine. She organized and cooked for her annual Kingery family reunion, where her amazing Noodles were a favorite of all. She married Floyd Burdette Simmons, also of the Moravia area, and together they had five children: Beverly, Patricia "Patty", Charlotte, Gary, and Dan. Alice and Floyd enjoyed 34 years together before she lost him to cancer. After his death, she learned to drive, got her driver's license, finished her GED and completed her education as an LPN. She worked for a time as an LPN and as an activities director at a nursing home in Centerville. She also loved to drive and to travel, and enjoyed many sights in the U.S., including two trips to Hawaii. Later in life she married Don Smith of Ottumwa and they enjoyed traveling, gardening and visiting family together. Her favorite thing of all was spending time with her family. Many weekends were filled with family visiting her and lots of cooking, talking, and rocking fussy babies. She often said that if she was given a job in heaven, she hoped it would be to hold and rock babies. She passed peacefully of natural causes at Monroe Care Center, where she had lived for 4 years. Alice was preceded in death by her husbands, daughter Beverly Cormeny; her parents; sisters Mary, Maxine, Dorie, Twyla and Sylvia; and brothers, Jim Millemon and baby, Robert Millemon. She is survived by four of her children, Patricia "Patty" Simmons, Charlotte Senior (Jeff Newlun), Gary (Bonnie) Simmons, and Dan (Jolly) Simmons; three siblings, Ralph Millemon, Daisy Lopez, and Lillian Douglas; as well as 17 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Lange Funeral Home in Moravia, Iowa with Pastor Jonathan Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Moravia. A memorial has been established to EveryStep Hospice and may be mailed to Lange Funeral Home, 1900 S. 18th St., Centerville, Iowa, 52544.
