Description	:	Alice Ruth (Bailey) Stern passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022, at home on Whidbey Island, in Washington State. She was surrounded by her loving family and kitties at her side. Alice Ruth was born December 2, 1925, in Hamlin, Kan., to her parents, Clarence Bailey and Berdie (Manon) Bailey. She was surrounded by her loving family and kitties at her side. Alice Ruth was born December 2, 1925, in Hamlin, Kan., to her parents, Clarence Bailey and Berdie (Manon) Bailey. Alice Ruth attended College in McPherson, Kan., at McPherson College with roots in the Church of the Brethren. While attending college she met her future loving husband, David Stern, who was a WWII Navy Veteran attending College also. Soon after they married, Alice Ruth and David moved to Minnesota were they both taught school in Blackduck, Minn. They would eventually move to Cando, North Dakota, while David was attending graduate school. While in Cando, their daughter was born. The family moved to Dixon, Ill., in 1960 and settled into the community. Alice would live in Dixon until she moved to Greenbank, Wash., on Whidbey Island in December of 2021. Her love of music and piano filled her life from a very early age until her final days. Alice was still tapping her toes to big band music until the end. With her kitty, Mattie, by her side, Alice was thriving in her new home on Whidbey Island while continuing to listen to WGN radio and watching her Chicago Cubs play baseball. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Berdie Bailey and her husband, David E. Stern. Alice Ruth is survived by her daughter and daughter-in-law. Surviving family also includes her nephew and his two sons; two nieces, one had four children, one daughter and three sons and one had two sons and Emons and her sons and two cousins include one and her two daughters and another female cousin. A private graveside service will be held for the interment of the cremains of Alice Ruth and David Stern in Gypsum, Kan.. A memorial fund has been established at Granny Rose Animal Shelter where Alice adopted her wonderful friend, Mattie. Donations can be mailed in the form of a check to Granny Rose Animal Shelter, 613 River Lane Dixon, IL 61021, in care of the Alice Ruth Stern memorial fund.
