Description	:	Alice Viola Schlapia, daughter of John and Nathena Schlapia, was born April 18, 1870, in Ringgold county near Benton, Iowa. She peacefully passed away Thursday evening at 6:30, May 26, 1932, at Diagonal, Iowa, at the age of 60 years, one month and eight days. She was united in marriage to Millard F. Byerley April 15, 1889. To this union were born three daughters - Mrs. Viola May Stepehsn, Mrs. Leota Roudybush, Mrs. Elva Prentis; and she was a mother to her niece, Mrs. Lava Barchus Baker, whom she raised from infancy. The deceased has spent her entire life in... Read More	Alice Viola Schlapia, daughter of John and Nathena Schlapia, was born April 18, 1870, in Ringgold county near Benton, Iowa. She peacefully passed away Thursday evening at 6:30, May 26, 1932, at Diagonal, Iowa, at the age of 60 years, one month and eight days. She was united in marriage to Millard F. Byerley April 15, 1889. To this union were born three daughters - Mrs. Viola May Stepehsn, Mrs. Leota Roudybush, Mrs. Elva Prentis; and she was a mother to her niece, Mrs. Lava Barchus Baker, whom she raised from infancy. The deceased has spent her entire life in Ringgold county. They lived on a farm north of Benton, which they bought shortly after their marriage, living there for 25 years. In 1912 they moved to Diagonal, their present home. She united with the M. E. church at Benton when thirteen years of age and on moving to Diagonal her membership was transferred to this place, having lived a true consistent christian life full of good deeds and considerate of everyone. Her father, mother and sister proceded her in death. Those left to mourn her loss are her husband, Mr. Millard Fillmore Byerly; three daughters, Mrs. Viola May Stephens of Diagonal, Mrs. Leota Roundybush of Talmadge, Neb., and Mrs. Elva Prentis of Indianola; one brother, Elmer Schlapia of Mount Ayr; two uncles, Chas. Schlapia of Diagonal and Asa Rains of Benton; three grandchildren, Mildred Prentis of Indianola, Malland and Velmer Stephens of Diagonal; and two little nieces, Norma Jean and Iona Marie Baker, two grandchildren having died in infancy; besides other loved ones and a host of friends. All is well at any time The Blessed Master calls. A beautiful home ___ there, A vision of which I ___ Oh, in that city - ___ - where With loved ones I shall be. And with Jesus live forever. In that city beyond death's sea; Oh, I want my loved ones to meet me there. What a blessed thought, dear loved ones, I'll be waiting there for you, At the pearly gates of heaven, When you bid this world goodbye. Look to Christ, he sympathizes As he sees your tear-stained face; He can heal the broken hearted, And sufficient is His grace. Here we cannot know the meaning Of the providential hand, But he has promised that in heaven We shall know and understand. Oh, then, trust in God, dear loved ones; Grace for each trial will be given, Then when your life work is ended You shall meet your mother in heaven; Safe in the arms of Jesus; Safe and waiting for you dear ones In the shining world above. So in our voyage on the stream of life we must actively fulfill God's plan and purpose. We must consiously express him, and know that divine intelligence is ever keeping us in the true path to holiness. Through constant prayer and absolute reliance upon God all that is unlike good is overcome and disappears before the light of truth; the searchlight of truth is guiding on and up to God, into the home port of divine love, where we hear the joyful words, "All is well".
