Alice Fuchs left this world on Saturday, September 26, 2015, and went to forever LIVE with our LORD. She was surrounded by her loving family. Alice Fuchs, daughter of John T. and Helen (Derner) Schmitz, was born October 10, 1932 on a farm near Bonesteel. She was the sixth of 11 children. Alice attended school through the ninth grade. Her Dad had died at a young age, so she left high school to help care for her siblings. Alice married Charles Fuchs on December 18, 1952 at Fairfax. They made their home on the family farm, where they farmed and raised their children until later moving into Pickstown in 1994. Alice loved cooking for her family and everyone at Abby’s. She was famous for her cream pies, soups and donuts. She retired in 2013. Grateful for sharing her life are her husband of nearly 63 years, Charles of Pickstown; three sons: James of Yankton; Richard (Pat) and Steve (Kathy) all of Pickstown; eight grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three brothers: Dick of Gregory; John (Judy) of Stuart, NE; Ralph (Robin) of Mission; one sister, Agnes (Ray) Engelhaupt of Spencer, NE; brother-in-law, Joe Schaller of Sioux Falls; sister-in-law, Carol Tolliver of Wagner; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; six siblings: Joe (Helga), Bernard (Laura), Ted (Dorain); Raymond (Irma); Cecelia Schaller and Dolly (Albert) Bechtold; sister-in-law, Lois Schmitz; and brother-in-law, Glen Tolliver. This was one of Alice’s favorite quotes from her grandson, Brenton at age 4 or 5 while they were eating at the dinner table: “Grandma, when you get to heaven, will you save me a chair so that I can sit by you?” I’m sure she will, Brenton!!
