Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday. She died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Stanton Health Center. --- Alice was born on Feb. 27, 1921, in Pierce, the daughter of Sam and Cora (Lawyer) Schwerin. She attended school in Pierce prior to moving to Norfolk where her father started the Norfolk Hatchery. After graduating from Norfolk High School in 1938, Alice continued her education at Wayne State, graduating with a secondary education teaching certificate. She pursed her post graduate education in Boulder, Colo. She taught English and Latin in Walthill, Columbus and Yankton, S.D., before moving to Omaha. She taught at South High School. On May 10, 1953, Alice married Warren Wiborg in Norfolk. They made their home in Omaha for a year before returning to Norfolk to operate the Norfolk Hatchery with her brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Muriel Schwerin. She retired from the hatchery in 1989 to the family cabin in Pequot Lakes, Minn. She returned to Norfolk in the early 2000s, residing at the Meadows and later at the Homestead. For the past year, Alice resided at the Stanton Health Center, where she was Queen of Cobblestone Village this past Valentine's Day. Alice enjoyed cooking, knitting, reading and her two faithful companions, Besty and Ollie. She loved outdoor activities, including gardening, boating and fishing. She was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Minnesota Twins. However, her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She was very adventurous in starting to cross-county skiing at the age of 72 and snorkeling at the age of 80. Alice is survived by her children and their spouses, Warren Jr. and Laurie Wiborg of Stanton, Dr. Cynthia and Michael Harvath of Prior Lake, Minn.; her grandchildren, Nathalie Wiborg, Samuel Wiborg and Charleston Harvath. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and his wife and her former husband.
