Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Conrad United Methodist Church in Conrad, with Sungjoon Park officiating. Burial will be in the Conrad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad, with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. A memorial fund is being established. Times-Republican, Marshalltown, IA Tuesday, November 1, 2005 __________ Aliene Gates, 86, of Goldfield, died Monday, October 31, 2005, at the USA Health Care in Clarion. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Conrad with Pastor Sungjoon Park officiating. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Whyte and her husband, Steve, of Goldfield; and son-in-law, Gene Connelly, of Mission, Texas, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Emma Johnson Morrison, her bothers, Herbert and Keith, a sister, Ruby Stirm, her husband, John Gates in 1988, and a daughter, Linda Connelly in 2002. Aliene Morrison Gates was born and raised in the Conrad, Iowa area. On February 27, 1939 she married John Gates at Martensdale, Iowa, they farmed in and around the Conrad area until retiring into Conrad in 1976. She moved to Goldfield in 1999 to be near her daughters, Linda Connelly and Nancy Whyte and their families. She was a member of the Eagle Grove Quilt Club and made many quilts for family and friends. Reading was another of her hobbies, along with baking. Aliene transferred her membership from the Conrad United Methodist Church to the Goldfield United Methodist Church after her move.
