Alison Lucille Baum was born on April 27, 1952, the daughter of Robert and Dorothy (Twedt) Baum in Eldora, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Class of 1970 from the Union-Whitten High School. Alison studied at the Salvador College of Hairstyling. She began work as a hairstylist and then was employed at Halo's Cafe by Marge Snook. Alison married Gerald Robert Simpson in 1972 in Union. They were the parents of two daughters. He died in 1977. She married Wayne Eugene Sly on February 14, 1980, in New Providence, Iowa. They were the parents of one son. Wayne died in 2007. Alison was employed at the Iowa Veterans Homes as a CMA/CNA. She had previously been employed at the Zearing Nursing Home, and the Eldora Nursing Home and Rehab as a hairstylist and CMA/CNA. She was a member of the Union Community Church. Alison's hobbies included crocheting and baking. She loved spending time with her pets and family. Alison is survived by her children, Leann (Saeed) Tarokh of Cary, North Carolina, Karrie Simpson of Eagleville, Missouri, and Eric (Tonya McEwen) Sly of Union; eight grandchildren; her siblings Karen (Leonard Eakes) Blair, Sandra (Bud) Trittien, Nancy (James) Lewis, Robin (Jay) LaVelle, Mike Baum, and Kim (Gary) Youngman; her friend, John Underberg; and many nieces and nephews.
