Read More	Evening Times-Republican, Marshalltown, Iowa ~ 26 May 1908, Tue • Page 7 Too deaf to hear the noise of a train rapidly bearing down upon him, and failing to see the approaching engine, Allek Tow, a well-known and highly respected retired farmer living at Dunbar, was killed on Monday evening at about 7 o'clock, at a point about midway between Pickering and Dunbar, on the C.M. & St. P. tracks. Tow lived fifteen minutes after being truck by the train. Mr. Tow came here Monday to do some trading and to make some purchases necessary to equip him for a happily contemplated journey to his old home in Norway. He expected to leave in about a fortnight. He left on the Central train Monday evening at 5:50 and got off at Pickering, intending to walk home, a distance of two miles. Accompanying Mr. Tow on the same train were Mr. and Mrs. Ole Rafos of Dunbar, who had also been to the city for the day. Mr. and Mrs. Rafos were walking with the old man on the Milwaukee tracks. The party met Bert Ingebritsen, a friend, and Mr. Tow stopped to have a chat with him. Mr. and Mrs. Rafos walked on, and got a short distance ahead of Tow. Ingebritsen and Tow finished their conversation, and Tow started to rejoin his friends. Mr. and Mrs. Rafos saw the approaching train, and got out of the way, but Mr. Tow failed to either see or hear, and was struck. Mr. Tow was removed to his home immediately, the train that struck him, which consisted only of an engine and way-car, taking him to Dunbar, together with Mr. and Mrs. Rafos and Mr. Ingebritsen. Coroner Nichols was summoned by telephone and left at 9:30 in an automobile. The trip thru the mud and rain of the severe thunderstorm, was made in about two hours. The coroner decided, after hearing the stories of the eye witnesses, that an inquest was unnecessary. Allek Tow was one of the best known men in the Dunbar settlement, where he had lived for thirty-eight years. He was well-to-do, and retired a few years ago, leaving the cares of his farm in the hands of his sons. He was 68 years old, and a widower, Mrs. Tow having died about seven years ago. Mr. Tow is survived by four children, two sons and two daughters. The sons are B.A. and Andrew Tow, and the daughters Mrs. Inger Anderson and Miss Rachel Tow.
