Wendy Miles, pastor of the church, officiated. Doris McGregor was organist. Honorary casket bearers were Berniece Larson, William Riehl, Betty Thomsen, and Larry Gardner. Casket bearers were Mark, Tony, and Dan Fox, Kenny Schmidt, Jay Batcheller, and Denny Pierce. Interment was in Paton Twp Cemetery at Paton. Allen Eugene "Deke" Fox was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Dana, Iowa. He was the son of Louie and Gladys Piatt Fox. Deke moved to Paton as a youngster and graduated from Paton High School in 1945. He entered the United States Naval Service on Jan. 31, 1946, and served in Florida in the Hospital Corps. He was honorable discharged on Dec. 1, 1947. Deke returned to Paton and ran Deke's Cafe. He married Ellenor Flowers at Hiawatha, KS on June 11, 1949. The couple spent their married life in Paton. Deke delivered milk in Paton and surrounding areas for many years. Later he sold insurance at Home Agency in Paton, and later at Gordon and Bower Insurance Agency in Gowrie. He drove school bus for Paton-Churdan Schools for ten years. Deke was a member of Central Christian Church in Jefferson. He was a member of Rose Lodge No. 506 in Gowrie, of which he was a past master, and was a past member of the Eastern Star Lodge, of which he had been worthy patron. He died on June 26, 1997 at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Rodney Paul; one brother, Myron; and a granddaughter, Amanda. Survivors include his wife, Ellenor Fox of Paton; three sons: Randy (Joy), Al, and Rick (Judy); one daughter Kris; one sister, Naomi, and one brother, Robert; seven grandchildren.
