Allen Eugene Johnson was born October 10, 1926, to Henry Kornelius and Elvira Rachel (Rowland) Johnson, on the family farm northwest of Clermont, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, October 28, 2007, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union, Iowa, at the age of 81 years and 18 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the West Clermont Lutheran Church at Clermont, Iowa. Allen attended the rural school Dover No. 6 and graduated from Clermont High School in 1944. He began working for Merrill Gunderson on the farm and then for the Clermont Brick and Sand Company. Shortly after that Allen purchased the hardware store and renamed it Clermont Hardware,which he operated for almost 60 years. Allen enjoyed attending the family gatherings, as well as snowmobiling and riding his Harley. He loved to hunt deer and pheasants and playing cards and dominos with his nieces and nephews and friends. Allen was a great supporter of the Clermont Community and participated in all of its activities and fund raisers. He was a member of the West Clermont Lutheran Church and the Masonic Lodge in Clermont, and he served on the City Council. He is survived by his sister, Arlene Ruckdaschel, and his brother, Robert "Mick" Johnson and his wife, Linda, all of Clermont, a sister-in-law, Audrey Johnson, Oelwein, IA, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Howard and DeWayne.
