Description	:	Allen Gene Rempe was born on July 24, 1931, to his parents Abram and Christina (Van Engelenhoven) Rempe. The family, including his older brother Wilbur lived on a farm at rural Leighton, Iowa. Allen attended Centennial School, a country school a few miles from his home and often rode his pony to school. The family, including his older brother Wilbur lived on a farm at rural Leighton, Iowa. Allen attended Centennial School, a country school a few miles from his home and often rode his pony to school. He always sat at a desk on the West side of the classroom so he could see what the neighboring farmers were doing. Allen loved Centennial School and spoke highly of it the rest of his life. Allen was baptized at Ebenezer Reformed Church, Leighton, Iowa where he was a life long member. He held various positions at the church including Sunday school teacher, youth leader, Sunday school superintendent, Deacon, and Elder. Ebenezer was important to Allen and he enjoyed being involved with the church throughout his life. Allen grew up working on his family farm and as a young man also worked part-time for other farmers and at the Leighton Lumber Yard. In 1952 Allen and Florence Van Maanen were united in marriage at Ebenezer Reformed Church and celebrated 68 years of marriage. They lived on a farm in Leighton where they farmed with his father for eight years. In 1960 Allen and Florence moved to the Van Maanen home farm southwest of Leighton where they farmed for 37 years. In 1997 Allen suffered a debilitating stroke due to a birth defect in his heart of which he was unaware. Since that time Allen continued to have health problems. Allen and Florence moved back to Leighton and he enjoyed living there until he became a resident of the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa in 2016. Allen passed away there on Monday, November 2, 2020, at the age of 89 years. When work was caught up, and before the school year started, Allen enjoyed taking trips, particularly to see mountains and to visit Mt. Rushmore. Later Florence and Allen were able to visit The Netherlands which is where Allen’s ancestors were from. When the airplane landed in The Netherlands Allen said he felt like he had come home. While there he rode a bike while wearing wooden shoes. Allen is survived by his faithful wife, Florence; their three children: Sandra Joan Rempe of Glasgow, Missouri; Jack Allen Rempe (married to Tami Pettit) of Leighton, Iowa; and Mark Lee Rempe (married to Joyce Davis) of Pella, Iowa. They have five grandchildren: Nicholas Allen Rempe (married to Nicole Beyer) of Bondurant, Iowa; Tyler James Rempe of Bondurant, Iowa; Christopher William Rempe of Pella, Iowa; Jordan Alissa Rempe of Pella, Iowa; and Madison Leeann Rempe of Pella, Iowa; and three great-grandchildren: Elise Nicole Rempe, Rhett Allen Rempe, and Clark Nicholas Rempe all of Bondurant, Iowa. He is also survived by sister-in-law Fran Watson of Kettering, Ohio; a nephew Stanley Rempe (married to Sue Allen) of Melrose, Iowa; and three nieces: Connie (married to LeRoy Blommers) of Pella, Iowa; Linda Donaldson of Springfield, Ohio; and Janet (married to Randy Salzwedel) of Fargo, North Dakota and Surprise, Arizona. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law Helen (Stephenson) and William Van Maanen, brother, Wilbur Rempe and his wife, Velma (De Prenger) and brother-in-law, Pete Watson. Allen loved being an Iowa farmer and always said he lived in the best place in the world!
